COLLEGE CAREER ADVISORS

~

FSA ID / Scholarship / Financial Aid Night –  THIS Wed., Dec. 6th

Students and families, if you are planning to attend college, training programs, apply to state-sponsored or other scholarships, then you will need to complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). But . . . whoa . . . the FAFSA is being revised and improved and will not be released until later this month. Any student who has applied to the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship HAS to complete and submit a FAFSA.

Before the FAFSA can be started, first the student and a guardian must create an FSA ID (Federal Student Aid Identification). We want to help facilitate this first step in the process. Mark your calendars for the days and time below. In order for everything to go smoothly, the student or the student and guardian will need to bring:

> Social Security number for student and the guardian

> School-issued Chromebook, fully charged

> Charged cell phones for verification purposes

> Both need easy and complete access to a personal email address

All the details:

FSA ID / Scholarship / Financial Aid Night

Wednesday, December 6th

6 to 8 pm

In the Highland Media Center

Bring all the important stuff, above.

Pizza and snacks will be served.

BYU-I Visits Highland – Thurs., Dec. 7th

Our admissions representative from BYU-Idaho, Jarred Brandt, will be visiting Highland on Thursday, December 7th, starting at 9 am; he will stay until about 11 am. If your student is interested in BYU-I, has questions about the academic programs or campus life, or would like assistance in completing the application, then mark your calendar.

Students need to have the permission and endorsement of their teacher(s) to be out of class (strong attendance, no missing work, prepared to make-up any work being done that day in class).

Jarred will also provide guidance regarding the BYU Grant process (financial aid / scholarships).

So mark your calendar:

BYU-Idaho Visit

Thursday, December 7th

Starting at 9 am, until ~ 11 am

C-36 (the CCA pod)

New Dual Enrollment This Tri?

Students, if you are beginning a new dual-credit class this trimester, we want to be sure you remember that you will need to register for that class and request your state funds. The Idaho State University classes are getting registered these few weeks between the holidays. The CWI and CSI classes will get themselves registered in the new year. Just a friendly reminder.

Seniors, Two Reminders

Seniors, we know we have asked a lot of you and we appreciate that you have created about 200 new accounts for college / training applications, Scholarship Idaho, Next Steps Idaho, and you are about to create an FSA ID. It’s a lot. Here are a couple of friendly reminders:

1. If you are thinking about two or four years of college, a training or apprenticeship program, it would be best if you got those applications in by the end of the calendar year.
2. Once the calendar turns to 2024, we will help all our seniors apply to scholarships near and far. The best and easiest money is from the state of Idaho and from the colleges and programs to which you have been accepted.

Humans, keep your eyes on the prize! Be educated and educable. Be kind, work hard, always.

Your friendly neighborhood CCAs,

Alice Rowe

Sarah May Clarkson
