COLLEGE CAREER ADVISORS

Apprenticeship-Plus Night: Thurs., Nov. 30th
Second year in a row! After the great success of Apprenticeship-Plus Night in 2022, this
event is back and open to students and families. More (and better) than an exclusive
apprenticeship event, this will feature local employers, state agencies, non-profits, and
organizations of every kind and size. This event is just right for the students and
community members who are hands-on learners, want (or need) to see their learning
applied in the real world, and who will be most satisfied to “earn while you learn.” A
terrific opportunity. Don’t miss it.
Again, mark your calendars. More information will follow from your school, the school
district, and on various media platforms. Be there:
Apprenticeship-Plus Night
Pocatello High School Commons area
Thursday, November 30th
6:30 to 8 pm

FSA ID / Scholarship / Financial Aid Night – Wed. Dec. 6th
Students and families, if you are planning to attend college, training programs, apply to
state-sponsored or other scholarships, then you will need to complete a FAFSA (Free
Application for Federal Student Aid). But . . . whoa . . . the FAFSA is being revised and
improved and will not be released until next month (December 2023). Any student who
has applied to the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship HAS to complete and submit a
FAFSA.
Before the FAFSA can be started, first the student and a guardian must create an FSA
ID (Federal Student Aid Identification). We want to help facilitate this first step in the
process. Mark your calendars for the days and time below. In order for everything to go
smoothly, the student or the student and guardian will need to bring:
& Social Security number for student and the guardian
& School-issued Chromebook, fully charged
& Charged cell phones for verification purposes
& Both need easy and complete access to a personal email address
All the details:
FSA ID / Scholarship / Financial Aid Night
Wednesday, December 6th
6 to 8 pm
In the Highland Media Center
Bring all the important stuff, above.
Pizza and snacks will be served.

BYU-I Visits Highland – Thurs., Dec. 7th
Our admissions representative from BYU-Idaho, Jarred Brandt, will be visiting Highland
on Thursday, December 7th, starting at 9 am; he will stay until about 11 am. If your
student is interested in BYU-I, has questions about the academic programs or campus
life, or would like assistance in completing the application, then mark your calendar.
Students need to have the permission and endorsement of their teacher(s) to be out of
class (strong attendance, no missing work, prepared to make-up any work being done
that day in class).
Jarred will also provide guidance regarding the BYU Grant process (financial aid /
scholarships).
So mark your calendar:
BYU-Idaho Visit
Thursday, December 7th
Starting at 9 am, until ~ 11 am
C-36 (the CCA pod)

The college career advisors stand ready to work with any and all students to help them
navigate all their school opportunities and those that lay ahead. We hope each senior
has a plan with doable and attainable options, and we will soon encourage seniors to be
applying to scholarships, completing and submitting a FAFSA, and seeking the goals
that will help them find success.
